FREYA – Floating Sauna

Freya, conceived and designed by Facundo Arboit—Partner at BCW Collective—emerges from a desire to reimagine the traditional sauna ritual. Inspired by Nordic wellness and urban fluidity, Freya dissolves boundaries between interior and exterior, heat and cold, solitude and community. The design intention centers on full immersion—not just in the fjord, but in shared urban life and elemental connection.

Positioned by Aker Brygge within the Oslo Fjord Spa network by GreenBoats, Freya is more than a floating structure—it is part glass house, part ceremonial platform. Generous glazing embraces panoramic fjord views, while the topology and scale (accommodating up to 15 people) turn the sauna into a stage for performance-like “aufguss” rituals—where water and steam interplay, and the fjord becomes part of the experience.

Within Oslo’s rapidly evolving fjordside sauna culture—where traditional wood-fired rafts meet glass domes and artistic pavilions—Freya stakes its poetic claim. It stands among KOK Oslo’s electric sauna rafts, SALT’s dynamic temporary installations, and architecturally significant vessels by Oslo Badstuforening. Together, these contribute to a vibrant mosaic of Nordic wellness in the city.

Though technical details for Freya are rooted in BCW Collective’s studio work, the ethos is clear: a careful orchestration of transparency, safety, and connection. Innovations in glass and fireproofing allow sweeping visibility without compromising wellbeing—while the floating platform anchors an immersive, yet socially generous space.
